Alongside my visit to Tyseley Loco Works for their open day later in the month Crewe Diesel Depot was opening it's doors for a one off open day where the public could see what was going on behind closed doors.

Alongside the majority of the stock on display being diesels and electric locomotives there were a good number of steam engines on display which included: 34046 Braunton (now back in it's true identity), 45231 The Sherwood Forester and 70000 Britannia (in light steam). There were also a number of steam engines in the workshop undergoing overhauls or repairs including 5029 Nunney Castle, 46100 Royal Scot and 60532 Blue Peter. The two merchant navy's 35022 Holland America Line and 35027 Port Line were also on site but in very poor shape. 35022 was still in scrapyard condition but there was very little of the engine left, 35027 Port Line was in a more complete state but still not looking pretty. Restoration of these two engines will be undertook in the future once 5029 Nunney Castle & 60532 Blue Peter's respective overhauls are completed, 4464 Bittern's even got priority before the merchant navy's.

Alongside touring around the site at Crewe Diesel TMD there were buses run with the AEC Routemaster bus which would take people from the station to the heritage centre where there was a model railway show on. 5551 The Unknown Warrior was also on display in the workshop but certainly has taken a step back in appearance and condition since the plaque unveiling last year. However the wheelset work should be done soon and the boiler isnt far off completion too.
