Описание к видео Buncombe County Students Head To Selma, AL

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- This weekend marks the 50th Anniversary of a historic event in Civil Rights Movement: Bloody Sunday. In 1965, A group of non-violent protestors planned a march from Selma, AL to Montomery, AL. Law enforcement brutally stopped the group.

About 50 high school students from Early College at A-B Tech will be there to honor the anniversary. They've studied the history and seen the movie Selma, but actually being there will mean way more.

"Had it not happened, I wouldn't be here. I wouldn't have the friends I have. I wouldn't be able to pursuit the education I'm going through right now," Rafael Tate said, an early college junior.

Tate's close friend August Schaller organized the trip. Schaller said he was sitting with his parents when he had an idea.

"I was about to turn to them, and say that we should all go. Before I could, my Mom cut me off and said that we were going. She didn't know that I was planning on saying the same thing. They had the exact same idea," Schaller said.

Schaller brought the idea up to his teachers. They told him to gather some info. Schaller gauged interested, looked into transportation, and wouldn't take no for an answer.

"It just means that I can be a part of that celebration of history," Schaller said.

Junior Grant Hipps looks forward to hearing the President speak.

"That's going to be incredible, especially since we have the first African-American President. That's what this movement really stands for is equal rights of not just African-Americans, but for everyone, and that's a big reason," Hipps said.

Celebrating change and standing up for equality, Tate says this weekend will be something he'll one day tell his kids about.

"Just the entirety of it makes me really just excited," Tate said.

They'll leave at 6 a.m. for a historic weekend.
