Verkada & Networking (Part 5) - Routing & switching example

Описание к видео Verkada & Networking (Part 5) - Routing & switching example

To bring the OSI model to light, and the use of MAC and IP addresses, I created this basic scenario modelled after a simple home setup, showcasing what happens when devices send information in and outside their subnets.

🗒️ Top takeaways:

➡️ If a device has to send data to a destination in its own subnet, it will find the MAC address of it via an ARP (Address Resolution Protocol), appending the information to the headers of the useful information; the destination MAC is then used by the switches in the LAN to decide that ports to forward the frames from

➡️ If a device has to send data outside its broadcast domain, it will forward it to its default gateway (configured statically or via DHCP), utilising ARP again to find the MAC address of the default gateway
