In answering a parent question, I provide a quick overview of one of the lessons we focus on in Advocates University. There is no greater area of understanding needed for the proper development of your child's IEP than to know the relationship between your child's diagnostic profile, how it manifests across your child's educational performance areas (academic, communication, social/emotional development, functional/independent living skills) so that the team understands your child's "unique needs" and tailors your child's IEP towards those areas through identifying your child's present levels of performance (accurately) across their educational performance areas.... next is goal development and then the team can move on to service minutes per day/week in what format (1:1, small group, gen ed push in instruction) and using what instructional approach (methodology) that will enable the child to attain the goal.
