This appearance by Neville Wragg, the co-founder of "Nostalgia Unlimited" on Melbourne's 3CR, was taken on the last day of operation of 3CR's original studios at 1112, High Street, Armadale, corner of Stewart Street. I'd set up the flying spot scanner in studio 1, the largest studio of the station, and shot these segments in the close-down between the lunchtime and evening program. Also present during the taping were Mangan Ryan, Mike O'Donnel, Martin Gara and other spectators. After midnight, another close down allowed us to run test tones - as well as these narrow band video signals, on an unannounced and unofficial on-air test. The 840 kHz video transmission was received, apparently quite well, by Trevor Hill in Beaumaris, who had a NBTV scanner hooked to his a.m. radio receiver. There was no sound with this test, it was purely video with no sound accompaniment, and the video signal was recorded on audio tape, the source for this youtube upload. Neville later co-hosted a nostalgia music format program over 3AW with Clarke Sinclair from 1977 to 1985. He moved to Maryborough, Victoria, sometime in the early 1980s and died in October 1997. It's nice that this tape preserves one of Neville's smiles, because his laughter and humour helped to brighten our work in 3CR's establishment phase, 1976-77.
