After an impressive improvement in safety indicators, expats from all over the world are thinking about living and retiring to El Salvador.
Cities like Santa Ana and Santa Tecla became hotspots for digital nomads, bitcoiners, and entrepreneurs. They are also among the best places to retire in El Salvador.
The cost of living in El Salvador increased, but it is still low when compared to the US, and there are many other pros (and a few cons) for this Central American country.
If you ever thought about living in El Salvador, this is the video for you.

🔎 EXCERPT 🔎
So we, from the Expat, talked to locals and did a very deep research to discover if this is true.
And it is, but some things still need to be fixed.
Ready? So we start with the Pros of living and retiring in El Salvador
And I will not talk about the beautiful beaches and the surf, because you probably already know how spectacular is the Salvadoran coastline.
Let's go for more pragmatic things.
And nothing more pragmatic than the fact that El Salvador solved CRIME.
It was the most violent country in the world, and became the most peaceful in the western hemisphere.
From 2015 to 2023, the country had a 97.5% drop in its homicide rate.
The amount of murders the country had in the entire year of 2023, is the same as it had in 9 days in 2015.
In 2015, the homicide rate in El Salvador was 103 murders per 100.000 residents per year. In 2023, it was only 2.4.
What does this number, 2.4, mean?
Well, let's compare it to some American cities.
Chicago has a rate of 18 homicides per 100.000 residents per year. This is almost 8 times higher than El Salvador.
Philadelphia, 20 murders per 100.000 residents per year.
Newark, in New Jersey, and Cleveland, in Ohio, both have 27 murders per 100.000 residents.
Detroit? Almost 40.
and what about Baltimore in Maryland? 55 homicides per 100.000 people per year.
So remember: El Salvador has only 2.4!
And despite being more violent, these American cities are much more expensive to live in than El Salvador. But we'll discuss the cost of living in El Salvador shortly, so stay tuned.
