SPRINTER Commuter Train: Escondido to Oceanside California

Описание к видео SPRINTER Commuter Train: Escondido to Oceanside California

The Sprinter is a passenger rail service operated by San Diego’s North County Transit District. It travels over the 22 mile long former Santa Fe Railroad Escondido Branchline in-between Oceanside and Escondido, California. Trains run every 30 minutes during regular hours of travel with hourly operations during early morning and late evening weekend periods. Sprinter service is provided by a fleet of 12 Diesel Multiple Units, or DMU for short. These self propelled passenger rail cars were built by Siemens-Mobility in Germany and are part of an off the shelf European family of Rail cars known as the Desiro. They are quite popular on some of the more lightly traveled passenger rail lines in Europe but the Sprinter is the only service in North America to use this type of equipment. Over the years, Sprinter has become a popular mode of public transit, seeing over 2.4 million riders in 2019. Future plans call for even more of the route to be double tracked in order to increase train frequency. In this video, we will once again revisit this unique commuter rail operation in North County San Diego, following the route from Escondido to Oceanside and back again.
