Locals are demanding an urgent upgrade to the Yass Valley Filtration Plant after decades of inconsistent access to safe drinking water, multiple boil water alerts, and decades of funding promises.

General practitioner Dr Hannah Burn saw a spike in patients presenting with gastro-like symptoms during February's boil water alert, and says general water quality remains a major concern for residents' health.

The Yass Valley Council and the NSW government have committed about $17 million to fixing the water filtration plant, but a major upgrade is likely to cost close to $37 million. The council has reapplied for a federal government grant after being initially knocked back due to paperwork issues.
