For the sixth Online Japan Folk Festival plus, we would like to introduce the songs and dances of Yaeyama islands, Japan’s southernmost point, which is called the treasury of folk performing arts.
The performance in this video was appeared at the first Japan Folk Festival in New York’s Carnegie Hall in 1995.
We hope you enjoy their unique and variety of dances and songs of the Yaeyama and its background history explained by Mr. Koji Orita, advisor,National Theater of Japan.
