During one riding season, Swedish Lynx ambassador, Tobias Hellström faces extremes from freezing mid-winter darkness to warm, endless spring days. In these conditions, what you are wearing can be the difference between a great day on snow and a bad one.

On this video, Tobias shows us how he uses layering to stay warm, dry and comfortable on snow through polar nights and spring days.

PRINCIPLES OF LAYERING:

Base Layer to keep you warm and dry, moving moisture away from the skin. For cold temperatures, more than one base layer may be needed. Merino wool is a great material for the base layer.

Mid Layer for insulation, adaptability and to move moisture further away from the skin. More than one mid-layers may be used in extreme cold temperatures. Make sure all of them have insulation and moisture-wicking qualities. Lynx favors Primaloft insulation that is lightweight, packable, and water-resistant.

Shell to let the moisture out and give protection from the elements. Look for durable, wind and waterproof gear with optimal breathability.
