🐍⚔️ Korbac vs Gundula – The Final Battle! Fortress vs Stronghold Showdown!

This is the final clash between Korbac, the Serpent Fly specialist of the Fortress 🐍, and Gundula, the Offense queen of Stronghold 🪓. We played on a random XL+U map (default template), and what unfolded was one of the most intense, back-and-forth battles in Heroes of Might and Magic III.

🟢 Early Game – Fortress Hope:
The game began full of promise. I stumbled upon an external Wyvern Nest 🐉 almost immediately. You KNOW what that means… (devil eyes). With the early Wyverns giving me momentum, I rushed to explore and expand, using every movement hex to my advantage. This allowed me to find the route to Gundula’s lands early, a major scouting win on an XL+U map.

🔴 Mid Game – Stronghold Strikes Back:
But then… disaster. Gundula found ME and attacked before I could finish prepping. Thanks to a big stack of gold, I managed to buy out what I could, and although I lost some Serpent Flies, I barely escaped with a retreat, paying a heavy ransom for my army. I was shaken… but not broken.

Then I learned the worst part 😱 - he had found an external Behemoth dwelling. And already had 5 Behemoths in his army! Meanwhile, I couldn't even afford my Hydras. My heart sank. I thought it was GG. If he had counterattacked at that moment, it would’ve been over. Fortress would’ve crumbled.

🟡 Late Game – Beastmaster Awakens:
But… he didn’t push. And that’s where things flipped. Over the next few weeks, I began to snowball. More army, better hero levels, great artifacts. Slowly but surely, Korbac was becoming a monster. The real turning point? I explored a single Warrior Tomb... and inside, I found the Helm of Heavenly Enlightenment (+6 to all stats)!! ✨

That moment changed everything.

🟣 Endgame - Fortress Rises:
With superior stats, a bulked-up army, and a fully powered Korbac, I took the initiative. I started hunting Gundula down. When I finally struck, my Fortress army was stronger, and Korbac’s late-game power overwhelmed her. The Beastmaster had returned the favor - with interest.

Gundula just Alt+F4-ed...

We’ve developed a unique set of house rules after hundreds of games to ensure a balanced and enjoyable experience:

1️⃣ No Dimension Door spell – This powerful spell makes map exploration too easy and diminishes strategic planning. By excluding it, we maintain the challenge and fairness of navigating the map.

2️⃣ No Berserk spell – With expert Fire Magic and the Cape of Silence artifact, Berserk becomes game-breaking. It allows one hero to dominate almost any army with minimal effort. After many matches using this combination, we agreed it takes away from the game’s strategic depth.

3️⃣ No Conflux or Factory towns – Both factions, while unique, are imbalanced against the classic towns. However, if both players are randomized to the same faction, we’ll proceed with the game for a fair match.

4️⃣ No Dragon Utopia battles – While tempting for its artifacts and resources, we’ve found it disrupts gameplay balance. The rewards are too significant, often deciding the game's outcome unfairly.

5️⃣ No Diplomacy skill – Recruiting neutral creatures with Diplomacy is highly unfair and disrupts game balance, allowing for an overwhelming advantage. It diminishes the core challenge of building and strategizing with your own forces.

6️⃣ No second same-race town development – If a player captures a town of the same faction as their starting town, they may only recruit its troops once and are forbidden from upgrading units or constructing new creature dwellings. Special buildings and gold income can still be utilized. This rule ensures a fair distribution of resources and troops across both players.
