There are different route which can be taken to hike to Hollywood sign
EASY: The Mt. Hollywood Trail,
Moderate: The Brush Canyon Trail
DIFFICULT : CLOSED - The Cahuenga Peak Hike

We took the most popular route up Mt. Hollywood, the second highest peak in the park, is suitable for families with children. It begins at the Charlie Turner Trailhead, named to honor a longtime park volunteer. You can use the restrooms at the Observatory and ask a park ranger about conditions on the trail. Summer can be scorching up there, so be sure and carry plenty of water. Sandals and flip-flops are not the best footwear in snake country. The trailhead sign and landscaping are at the north end of the Observatory parking lot. The hike begins with a short, easy ascent along a ridge.

We started our trail Charlie Turner Trail, around 9 AM PST. Coming to the parking there are few free parking at the bottom but you need to pay around $10 per hour if you park near Griffith Observatory.
We reached Griffith Observatory around 9 AM PST Tuesday and till 12:00 PM parking was free so we just took additional hour paying $10 to be on safer side.

From the Charlie Turner Tail, we took Mt. Hollywood Trail,
First Check Point: It would be Berlin Forest, where you can rest for a while or do a short work out to warmup the body before starting the hike
Second Check Point: The Tiffany & Co. Foundation Overlook: Once crossing the bridge if you walk for another 0/5 mile you will be reaching this overlook to capture scenic view of the mountain and Hollywood sign.
Third Check Point: Dante's View: We continued in Mt Hollywood Trail to Dante's View point, once of the best scenic view spot where you can rest for sometime with beautiful view of mountain, beautiful garden and some friendly rabbits who welcomes you to the spot.
Forth Check Point: Taco Peak: After Dante's view we choose to hike North Trail Head through Hogback Trail , on the way you can see the beautiful clouds beneath you on the Taco Peak
Fifth Check Point: Continue through the trail and get down to Mt. Hollywood Dr through Fire Rd. and then take next bit difficult Mt. Chapel Trail to Hollywood Sign
Sixth Check Point: Mt Chapel Trail in the New Ararat Forest Peak is quite bit difficult for moderate hikers but still manageable, and the hike will be fruitful and its covered with dense plants and on the way you can see beautiful view of the city, rivers and LA downtown. The Trail will lead to Mt. Lee Dr.
Final Point: Hollywood sign: if you continue for another 0.75 miles through Mt. Lee Dr you will be reaching Hollywood sign. you will not be able to take pics from the front of Hollywood as its all fenced but the hiking will totally worth.
It was around 8+ Mile hike loop.

This video covers the hike to Hollywood sign through Mt Chapel Trail. The Trail is bit hard and its a narrow path but its surely a must hike as you will be seeing spectacular view of the city along the way.
