Hi, Matt with Etrailer, and today we're talking about our RetraxPRO XR tonneau cover on the back of our 2023 Ford F350 Super Duty. Now, there's gonna be a great option for you if you're looking for something that's gonna help keep the things in the back of your bed protected from the elements, or if you wanna save on some extra gas and you want something that's gonna be custom fit. So let's check it out. So the tonneau cover we're gonna have today is gonna be retractable canister style. So what that means is it's just gonna roll up into itself and save you on a lot of space. We're also gonna have an aluminum construction with a matte black finish to it.

And what's nice about that aluminum construction is it's gonna be very durable and strong as compared to if you had any soft covers. If you had a soft cover tonneau cover, then someone could come by, just cut it open and access whatever you had in your bed. In our case today, this is gonna have the ability to lock so no one will be able to open up your tonneau cover. And if you have a locking tailgate like we do, then no one will be able to access any of it. But let's open it up so we can take a closer look at it.

So to do that, we're gonna have this box right here. This is gonna have a door on top of it. When you remove that door, you notice we have that lock core. That's what I was talking about earlier about this being able to lock. And with it in the unlock position, you can just press this button, it's gonna release your Tonneau cover.

And you're gonna have the ability to slide this back. Now, in some cases, if you don't want to pull it all the way back, you just want to pull it some, you could actually close this back down until it clicks into place, and it'll lock it in this position. The reason why you might want that is you might have something that you want access a lot. Something like if you have a tote right here, trying to get some tools out of here, but you have other items in the back that you don't want getting wet or being out in the elements. And the way that this rolls is pretty smooth.

We're gonna have some ball bearings that go along this track on the inside and just slide right down until it goes all the way back to the canister. And what I also do like about this is we don't have any hinges or anything like that that can get gunked up over time or get damaged. So since this just rolls into place, you don't have to worry about a lot of extra things breaking. You probably notice when we're opening up our tonneau cover, we have this fifth wheel back here. That might be a concern of you if you have anything like that back here. And the total height that the fifth wheel we have today is gonna be a little bit less than 20 inches and we still have clearance to open up our tonneau cover. Now let's check out our canister. So like I was talking about earlier, this what's nice about this is it doesn't take up a lot of room up behind our cab so it's not blocking anything, but it is gonna take up a little bit of room in your bed. So we'll get some measurements. The first measurement I'm gonna get is gonna be the total length it adds, and that's gonna be about 13 1/2 inches in your bed. So the bed we have today is about 6 3/4 quarter feet long, so you're gonna lose about a foot. Another feature of the canister is it's gonna have a spiral design. So what that means is the way it rolls up into itself is it's not gonna make any contact the entire time so you don't have to worry about it rubbing against itself, making some wear and tear over time. And at the bottom, we're gonna have some drain holes. You're gonna notice we'll have a tube that runs down. You're gonna have two of those in total. So the reason why we want to have drain tubes on our tonneau cover is because it's gonna prevent any water from pooling up inside and provide that water to run through so we don't have any rusting from occurring. Another thing that's gonna keep water out of here is gonna be our weather strips. We're gonna have one on the back of our canister so you don't have to worry about any water coming into your bed. Another area we're gonna have a weather strip is gonna be on our rails right underneath here so you don't have to worry about water pooling up underneath them either. Continuing on with the rails, they're gonna sit up just about an inch on the back of our bed, which isn't bad at all. It's actually pretty low profile for how, like, robust and sturdy they are. And something that really sets it apart is that we're gonna have this T channel that runs through either side of our rails.
