Should I start a PT practice right out of grad school❓

I’ve said this before and I’m going to say it again. I continue to standby what I said, however I do believe there can be an exception.

My advice to any new grad that wants to start their own practice is to first get out in the trenches, get a good mentor, and gain knowledge by working with all types of patients.

I say this because when you graduate with no experience then you are not only not a good clinician, but you’re also not a good business owner. I believe that this can be the biggest disservice to your patients, yourself, and your business.

Now there can be an exception. This could be the fact that you have experience working with patients as well as experience in customer service. This will certainly prepare you better for starting your own practice and allow you to better serve your patients.

I know that many will say this is bullshit and anyone could start a practice coming out of grad school.

This is true❗️

Anyone can start their own practice, but owning and running a successful business is not for everyone…And that is ok. The problem is that most people don’t know that, especially with no applicable experience.

Whether you agree with me or not, my advice to you if you plan to start a practice as a new grad is to get a great mentor or business coach. This will help you with starting your business as you continue to improve upon your clinical skills 👊🏻
