'Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor', Op. 30, by Sergei Rachmaninoff, in a performance by pianist Barbara Nissman and the BBC Northern Symphony Orchestra conducted by Albert Rosen.
The second film in Barbara Nissman's Master Class Series, 'Alberto Ginastera, A Man of Latin America', has been released in a set of two DVDs. The first DVD presents an in-depth portrait of Alberto Ginastera and includes performance excerpts and interviews with the composer himself, his daughter and his widow. You will also hear conductor Leonard Slatkin discussing Ginastera's last orchestral work, Keith Emerson of ELP remembering meeting Ginastera, and an encounter with Chick Corea who was a big fan of his music. The second DVD is a master class with Nissman at the piano, discussing and performing his three piano sonatas (his Third Sonata was dedicated to her) and his early Danzas Argentinas.
