The Fan Carpet's Marc Jason Ali spoke to Director Sacha Polak ahead of the release of Dirty God.

DIRTY GOD is a gem of British cinema, and has received an enthusiastic critical response so far. The film follows newcomer Vicky Knight as Jade, a young mother from London who has to rebuild her life after an acid attack leaves her with severe facial burns. It’s a topic that feels unfortunately prescient in the current climate – reflecting many a headline from the past couple of years – yet is here explored with nuance, compassion and an understanding that can only come from real experience (Knight is herself the survivor of an arson attack).



Dutch director Sacha Polak is the well-regarded filmmaker behind Zurich and Hemel, and was last year included in CineEuopa’s “10 European Directors To Watch”. The film also stars Katherine Kelly (Mr Selfridge) and Bluey Robinson (soon to star in Cats).



Synopsis

Jade is a young mother in the prime of her life when an acid attack leaves her severely burned. While her face has been reconstructed, her beauty is lost beneath the scars. Descending a self-destructive path with relationships crumbling, Jade must take drastic action to reclaim her life.
