Altit and Baltit Forts are the two most iconic historical landmarks of Hunza Valley, located in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. These forts are more than 700–900 years old and reflect the rich history, architecture, and royal stories of the Hunza Kingdom.

Altit Fort was the first royal residence, built by the Ayasho Dynasty over 900 years ago. It witnessed power struggles, royal betrayal, and political alliances — including a legendary marriage between a Hunza Mir and a princess from Shigar (Skardu).

Baltit Fort, just uphill from Altit, was built later and served as the main palace of the ruling Mir for centuries. Influenced by Tibetan and Central Asian architecture, it features hidden tunnels, royal halls, and a watchtower with stunning views of Rakaposhi and Ultar peaks.
