This is just a posterity repost of something I uploaded to Instagram and Facebook where I discussed why I struggle to vibe with "disso-death" or "dissonant" death metal describing music I make (and especially not atonal, but I don't get into tonal vs atonal). I try to explain how it works for me and things that turn up in the music I make almost automatically which take it away from feeling broadly "dissonant" to me - beyond the usage of some crunchy chords. Language and description is fluid expressive tool, just like everything else, and I don't literally - hate - it when people say certain things. It's not intended to admonish anyone for anything.
