There are many Din Tai Fung locations in Southern California. I’ve been to a total of 4 locations thus far : Downtown Disney Anaheim, South Coast Plaza, Century City Mall, and Santa Anita Mall. All of the locations mentioned serve uniform taste, quality, and ambience. However, I did notice the differences in the quality of services. Granted, I did visit the Anaheim location on their Grand Opening Day and so it might have been extra special. Yet for the very same reason it could’ve been more hectic and less attentive, so I will include that the Anaheim restaurant had the best service.

In terms of food, their menu items are generally all tasty. I did notice that they’ve updated their menu with new items. On this particular day 🎞️📺 2024.7.1, I’ve already had dinner because I thought I wouldn’t be able to get a table since it was their Grand Opening Day. To my surprise, their bar seating had no wait. Henceforth I dove into my second dinner.
I ordered what I consider their signature must haves. Crab 🦀 and Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao, Shrimp 🦐 and Kurobuta Pork Shao Mai, and for dessert something I haven’t tried before, the Chocolate 🍫 Mochi Xiao Long Bao with Sweet Cream Dip (extra $1 for the dip as of July 2024) The total came out to be (including tax and tip) = $60.

The Xiao Long Bao are smaller than the Shao Mai. There were 10 pieces. You can taste the crab meat, which is a good thing 👍. (I’ve tried the tiny crab 🦀 jelly, used for identifying purposes and it’s not yummy 😂)
The Shrimp 🦐 and Kurobuta Pork Shao Mai is one of my favorites at not just Din Tai Fung but at all dim sum places I visit. Their Shao Mai isn’t the best but it’s definitely not the worst.
The best menu item was the Chocolate 🍫 Mochi Xiao Long Bao with Sweet Cream (extra charge for the cream). Most everyone knows that chocolate can get grainy when melted. This chocolate was smooth and creamy. It wasn’t dark nor too sweet. It tasted like they mixed regular milk chocolate with dark chocolate in a cream batter? That’s what it tasted like to me.

I personally like this location the best out of the 4 I’ve visited. I wish I hadn’t had my first dinner 🍽️ because I would have ordered a veggie dish and a menu item containing soup.
Can’t wait to go back
