১৯৫০ সালে জমিদারি প্রথা বিলুপ্ত হওয়ার পর ১৯৬৮ সালের দিকে জমিদার প্রিয়শঙ্কর চৌধুরী সপরিবারে কলকাতা যাওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিলে জমিদারের চতুর্থ পুত্র প্রতাপশঙ্কর চৌধুরী কলকাতা যাওয়ার ব্যাপারে দ্বিমত পোষণ করেন। পরে জমিদার প্রিয়শঙ্কর চৌধুরী পুত্রকে রেখেই কলকাতায় পাড়ি জমান। পরবর্তীতে প্রতাপশঙ্কর চৌধুরী তার স্ত্রী ও এক ছেলে এক মেয়েকে নিয়ে হাতিয়াপাড়া সরকারী প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়ে শিক্ষকতার মধ্য দিয়ে ২০০৫ সালে মৃত্যুবরণ করেন।

বর্তমানে তার পুত্র অভিজিৎ চৌধুরী এই জমিদার বাড়ির এক জরাজীর্ণ ভবনে বসবাস করছেন।
