Hi members! This sneak peak is from a film I'm currently working on about the deep-sea Midnight Zone, a follow-up episode to Mysteries of the Twilight Zone.

Cephalopods of the deep are specialists, exhibiting a range of unusual (and often beautiful) traits and behaviours as a means to survive the challenges of the sunless depths.

In this short, we take a look at the glass octopus (Vitreledonella richardi), with its transparent body, including some of the first ever footage of an adult female, filmed last year by Schmidt Ocean Institute! We also delve into the active hunting strategies of mesopelagic squids, including humboldts, and compare it to bathypelagic feeding strategies; the vampire squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis), not a bloodsucker, but a detritivore. A scavenger, feeding on drifting organic particles of marine snow!
