Tyres are one of the most important components on your mountain bike, but navigating all the options out there can be a minefield.

The weight, rolling resistance and, most critically, grip of your tyres can massively influence the way your bike rides. As a result, it’s really important to choose the right boots for your steed in order to extract maximum enjoyment, and performance, from your riding.

Broadly speaking, heavier-duty rubber and softer compounds are used for downhill with lighter, skinnier tyres and harder compounds at the XC and downcountry end of the spectrum.

But don’t worry, I’ll be going into much more detail over the course of this video, to ensure you end up with the right rubber on your bike.
