Chapter 63 - Flow Net in Anisotropic Soil

To analyse the multi-dimensional flow of water inside the soil and to obtain solutions to the engineering problems such as to estimate the quantity of water percolating via seepage through the soil under a dam, we make use of a concept called Flow net. A flow net is a graphical representation of how the hydraulic energy is dissipated as water flows through a pervious medium.

We transform the anisotropic soil medium, medium which has different properties in different directions, by scale transformation to obtain isotropic medium, which has similar properties in different directions and for which the Laplace equation is valid. We do so as to construct the flow net and find solutions to our engineering problems in anisotropic soil.
