Combating Petroglyph Vandalism | SciWorx Archaeology

Petroglyph vandalism, theft and defacement are a growing threat to ancient archaeological sites around the world. All too frequently, sacred and ancient artifacts are cut out of cliff faces and illegally sold on the black market to unscrupulous buyers for shameful amounts. National and local governments do not have the budget to protect these sites either. They tend to range over large areas or difficult places to patrol. The thieves always seem to have the upper hand.
