"Sweet Jane" Cowboy Junkies cover of The Velvet Underground | CME Full Band Fridays

Inspired by an early arrangement of the Lou Reed song as it appeared on a relatively obscure live album by The Velvet Underground (1969), Reed himself was outspoken in his admiration for the Cowboy Junkies’ 1988 recording of “Sweet Jane,” which restores the bridge that had been cut out of the studio recording released on the 1970 LP Loaded. Covering the Cowboy Junkies’ cover of The Velvet Underground song, here’s the CME House Band quoting Lou Reed, telling our gear fans “heavenly wine and roses whisper to [us] when you smile!”

"Sweet Jane" is a song by American rock band the Velvet Underground; it appears on their fourth studio album Loaded. The song was written by Lou Reed, the band's leader, who continued to incorporate the piece into live performances as a solo artist. When Loaded was originally released in 1970, the song's bridge was cut. The box set Peel Slowly and See and reissue Loaded: Fully Loaded Edition restored the missing section.
