Meningioma | Brain Tumor USMLE Mnemonic

Meningiomas are tumors arising from the meninges, or the protective membranes covering the brain. They are tumors of adulthood, and are more common in females than in males. Because they arise from the meninges, these tumors are often found attached to the surfaces of the brain and in the parasagittal region (along the falx cerebri). These tumors are located extra-axially (outside the brain tissue), and may have a dural attachment or tail. Most meningiomas are asymptomatic, but patients experiencing symptoms can have their meningiomas surgically removed. Histopathologically, these tumors arise from arachnoid cells, and two characteristics to note are the presence of psammoma bodies and spindle cells.
