Описание к видео Totally WACK! A Lame NED Factory Demo Music Sequence for the Synclavier II

A recent rental project had a LOT of disks and drives pulled out (300+ 5.25" floppy disks of three different capacities and 9 floppy drives of three different capacities, loads of cards and cable adapters, plus two keyboards including a dusty old ORiginal Keyboard), so this was a good opportunity to let the people hear some 40+ year old Synclavier II sequences.

This polyphonic multitimbral electronic music sequence was recorded on the amazing 16-track Memory Recorder of the Synclavier II and is being played back on a very standard, albeit fully loaded 32 voice, Synclavier II system. Synhouse has fully restored and shipped dozens of similar systems in the last three decades and this work continues in 2021.

This sequence was from NED, included as a demo on many disks. The song is Sweet Georgia Brown, a 1925 jazz/pop standard by Ben Bernie and Maceo Pinkard. It was done by many, many greats, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald & Duke Ellington Orchestra, even Django Reinhardt did this one.

Sadly, NED did it, too. I'm reticent to rip on the work of a creative person, and was probably done by someone really nice like Bill Keenan, but this sequence is absolute shite, just incredibly low energy/low effort, with NO attempt made to even demonstrate the capabilities of the instrument. Synclavier II drums are absolute garbage, I mean like relative to the "drums" in a 1970s home combo organ they are garbage, and this trash sequence forces you to hear them solo. This whole crap sequence is done seemingly without the programmer realizing that THIS IS A POLYPHONIC MULTITIMBRAL INSTRUMENT and you CAN play more than one instrument at a time. But it tries to redeem itself by playing a little Steely Dan run near the very end around :31, so good on him for that.

This is the worst music sequence I have heard on the several hundred Synclavier II disks that have come in here over 32 years.

As far as Synclavier II sounds go, this one has five different sounds. The drums are absolute ass, same with that stupid "Weeeeeee!" sound pitching up, but the main chord sound is good, and as always the Hammond B3 drawbar organ sound is always excellent on the Synclavier II (that same sound was used on "That's All" from Genesis because they thought it sounded better recorded than the actual B3).
