Okay, alright, so I'm going to explain outreach like dating.
I'm Ori, the Executive Director for Go-To-Market at Manos Health, a healthcare marketing and consulting firm. I also run an outreach agency with my wife, MirraPonte Marketing. Here's how you should think about outreach:
Referrals are like your mom setting you up with someone. She'd say, 'I love Susie, let's set you up.' It's a lot easier.
Cold email is like Tinder. You're sending messages to a bunch of people; it's easy for them to ignore or be rude to you. A lot of people are on Tinder but not really looking. Also, with cold email, the best offers, like the 6'4 guy with a motorcycle or the Instagram girl with side or under boob shots, get better responses. But if you've worked on campaigns like this, you know that sometimes, just like in real life, those who look great might not fulfill their promise. The 'too good to be true' offers can lead to poor service, akin to dating someone who looks good but isn't a good partner.
LinkedIn is like Match.com compared to eHarmony; people are more serious. I remember on eHarmony, profiles were impressive, but meeting was hard if you're not in the same city. LinkedIn has strict limits on outreach and posting, which doesn't scale well without bending the rules, and those days are over since 2022.
Cold calling is meeting people in real life. For many companies, it's where you get the most bang for your buck. You need to do all three if you're big, but for many, real-life interaction can make up for not being conventionally attractive or photogenic. Cold calling, especially with today's technology for data enrichment, can be effective even if only one out of several sources gives you the right number.
You need to do all three - email, LinkedIn, and calling, but for many, just sticking to Tinder (cold email) might not showcase your true potential.
