Design for Dreaming – The 1956 GM Musical That Predicted…
Absolutely Nothing (But Looks Amazing Doing It)
Uploaded by MPO Productions, this 9½-minute Technicolor fever-dream was General Motors’ love letter to anyone who couldn’t make it to the 1956 Motorama in person.
Plot? A woman (dancer Tad Tadlock) dozes off in pastel pajamas. A masked phantom (Marc Breaux) materializes, gowns her up, and ballet-teleports her to the Waldorf-Astoria showroom. Cue non-stop choreography around:

1956 production cars (Buick, Cadillac, Corvette)
Dream concepts: Oldsmobile Golden Rocket, Pontiac Firebird II (gas-turbine, joystick steering, never built)

Mid-spin, an apron appears and she’s whisked into Frigidaire’s Kitchen of the Future:

Recipe slot-machine
Glass-walled fridge
Dome oven that bakes AND lights birthday candles

She sings:

« Tick-tock, tick-tock, I’m free to have fun around the clock! »

Back on the show floor, models in Adrian Thal couture present the “Dance of Tomorrow”. The mask comes off, they hop into the Firebird II and cruise the empty “electronic highway” into the sunset. Wake up—it was all a dream!
