Mum was looking restless as time went by, shifting her brooding position every so often. While the first hatchling sat by the sideline, Dad was hovering around the nest excitedly.
Eventually, Mum got up to clear broken eggshells, the first sign that the second egg had hatched. But the second hatchling could not be seen until Dad came by with feeds. Two heads popped out from Mum's back!
Contrary to what I had expected, hatching was actually pretty surreptitious!
Little Grebes are very rare residents of Singapore.
