How to grow Caladiums from bulbs (Caladium tubers)

Caladiums are easy to grow tropical plants that's look fantastic as houseplants or as outdoor plants for tropical and Exotic style gardens. Caladiums are easy to grow from their dormant tubers which is a much more affordable way to buy them. Although Caladiums grow slowly at first, once the first colourful leaves emerge the plant will grow very quickly!

Plant your Caladium bulbs (tubers) in spring using a good moisture retaining compost. The Caladiums tubers should be planted at a depth of 5cm-10cm with the pointy end facing upwards. Water in your Caladium tubers well to bring them out of dormancy and leave in a warm sunny spot.

Within about 6-10 weeks your Caladium plants will have emerged and produced their colourful leaves. To care for your Caladiums ensure they are kept in a humid environment such as your kitchen or bathroom. if you want to grow Caladiums elsewhere such as your living room or garden then spray with your plants with water frequently to maintain humidity around your Caladium plants. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged and feed weekly to help your Caladium plants maintain their bright colours. Caladiums love shady conditions so be sure to keep them out of direct sunlight. Caladium leaves are also very fragile so these plants will not cope with strong winds if planted outdoors in a tropical and exotic styled garden.
