After intense rainfall caused the River Guadalete to overflow in Jerez de la Frontera in southern Spain, emergency services including Spain’s Civil Guard carried out large‑scale rescue operations as floodwaters inundated homes and rural areas. The flooding, linked to storm front Kristin sweeping across the Iberian Peninsula, forced the evacuation of dozens of residents and pets. Guardia Civil’s special underwater units and aerial teams rescued cats and dogs trapped in submerged houses, while dozens of people were evacuated by boat and helicopter from low‑lying zones like Las Pachecas, Lomopardo and San Isidro de Guadalete. Authorities remain on high alert for further flooding and have activated emergency plans to support affected families and relocate animals to safer facilities.
