Thoughts:
This is actually a really neat looking board, pretty unique, the way things are angled and proportioned is interesting, I don't know the technical terms to describe it, but it's just pretty cool. I don't need to comment on the villager lol. I really dislike FRL as a layout, this is the only FRL board I'll ever be owning, the quality of it overrides my distaste for the layout lol. I actually like Purple Nights in combination with the gold ano plate and gray, but this spacebar is pretty warped sadly, it's usable for now though lol. I think it's reasonably comfortable for both front height and angle. I rebuilt it with split bs and non stepped caps cause why not (absolutely not because I was too lazy to do another stab)
This is an impressive board, in the sense of feeling and sounding so controlled and deep while being full alu, special in that regard since not many top mount boards can accomplish that imo. It's fairly stiff but very clean and reasonably lively feeling top mount board, but it does feel like it's got something going special on that I enjoy that I can't put my finger on. I do think in this test it threw me off a slight bit when typing but I think that's cause I was just excited to record after the rebuild and didn't let myself acclimate to it lol. It's got a nice and deep feeling and sounding spacebar, good balance between the alphas which is also cool. The past build really wasn't ideal, it was smooth feeling but that's about it, although the spacebar there was super punchy but nothing else remarkable, this is a lot more balanced and refined feeling and sounding build. It seems reasonably revealing of whatever you put into it, though I actually think as with other Biso boards it seems like it would be pretty well suited to tactiles, specifically heavier ones (clear build eventually? donno lol), but I already have my RS60 built with browns so this will stay blacks. This board does seem to interact with the desk more, as typical of other all alu boards, but I think it's also because of the larger stiffer footers which I don't really mind or anything it's just something to note, not a thudmaster or anything though. Solid as all Biso boards are, something that sets itself apart from other boards in a good way with a bad layout lol. If you're reading this and have an RS TKL you're willing to sell please let me know lol
I'm satisfied with this batch of switches, I actually think going for III or IV Sprits might have been the move in terms of giving cleaner snapback and slightly making the bottom out feel less drastic but I think I'm still happy with how it is now. Might eventually have to give some heavier tactiles a shot in here. Will likely just keep it like this, nothing to complain about. I actually wonder how this might sound with thicker PBT, it seems like it might actually take well to it, though I still prefer the feel of GMK over most anything else. Maybe I'll experiment with some keycaps when I get the time
Edit: I just tried some CRP on it, that's actually really nice, maybe I'll have to do another recording with some PBT
Build:
Bisoromi Kikuichimonji - Gray
Aluminum Top Mount
BI+L+F+SS Cherry HG Blacks (Sprit Slow Extreme II SE 60g springs, TX films, broken in 1.2m actuations)
Cherry Clipins w/ Geon wires
1.6mm FR4 Solder
Slight forcebreak on alignment pillars
GMK Purple Night (banana spacebar):
Equipment:
Neumann U87i (Thiersch Reskin) → Crane Song Flamingo.1 → Prism Lyra 2 OR Beyerdynamic M160 → Flamingo → Lyra 2, OR Nikon D5500
Head level, from seating position, on axis centered alphas, cardioid/hyper pattern. U87 partially coupled to desk, M160 directly coupled.
Max -1db peak (excluding camera), no further processing (1176 not in use)
The U87i is fairly honest with slight sweetness and grandness (unlike brittle Ai rev), reskin and mods add some clarity and slight treble boost at cost of smoothness, close to what you hear typing in person but slightly thinner and more sensitive (to my ear). The M160 is less capable, smoother, darker, and slower opposite reference that shows more desk interaction, not as accurate. Crappy cam mic for bystander and honesty check.
Crappy IKEA slab into acoustic membrane on concrete (slightly hollow and thinner sounding, weighted down with heavy equipment which dampens a bit, isolated from floor)
Aiglatson Studio Synchronize Jacquard (thicker and slightly stiffer, partially isolates from desk)
