It was a rainy October night back in 1962, only a month before his upcoming election for a county commissioner's seat, that 37-year old Portland, Oregon politician William Grenfell was found dazed and injured on the side of Union Avenue towards the northern end of town. Rushed to a hospital, having sustained multiple broken bones, he had quite the story about how he ended up where he did and how he was. However, the story he would tell is only the beginning of this story, and how the events of this one night drastically effected the future of a young politician.
