Fish and wildlife officers help conserve and protect the province’s natural resources by ensuring everyone understands and complies with the laws meant to safeguard its natural resources and the public. They also ensure the public’s safety and protection of property in regards to wildlife, as well as provide emergency response assistance to police agencies in rural Alberta.

We recently welcomed ten new officers to Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services. Each recruit must complete in-depth training to become a fish and wildlife officer. The intensive training program runs for a total of 21 weeks and is led by instructors – mostly active officers – from across Western Canada who use innovative techniques to deliver a first-class learning experience. After successfully completing the training program, new officers will then return to their districts and work under a field training officer for 12 months to give them vital operational experience.
