This accident killed the Governor of North Sumatra, Tengku Rizal Nurdin and also caused several residents living around the airport area to die due to the airport being too close to the airport. settlement. This has led to renewed calls for the airport in Medan to be immediately moved to a more suitable location. Development plans have been hampered by land acquisition problems for years.
