Fuzz Without a Face No. 103 SFT308 Germanium Fuzz Face

Описание к видео Fuzz Without a Face No. 103 SFT308 Germanium Fuzz Face

Demo for my latest build. This configuration has become my personal favorite and is identical to the one on my personal board. By swapping out the bloated 2.2uf input cap for a smaller 56nf tropical fish tone cap, it unlocks a clearer fuzz tone that isn't so wooly and bass heavy that it gets lost in the mix, but still does all the things you want a FF to do. These 308 transistors are the absolute best. very low noise, high fidelity tone, and full cleanup are why they are becoming modern classics.

How to use a traditional fuzz face:

1. Plug in. Fuzz Face pedals(FFP) should always be first in line, while engaged at least. For best cleanup and interactive volume control, fuzz first!

2. Turn fuzz control all the way up, then back off a tiny bit as it is very common to hear some noise at full gain. This will depend on individual units, rig, location, etc. Basically if there is some hiss or other noise, if it goes away with a small tweak of fuzz knob, this is normal.

3. Adjust volume to taste, often all the way up, but not always. Many of PFG's pedals have more volume built into them and reach uinity gain closer to noon.

4. Turn your amp up loud. FFPs sound best when they hit the front of a tube amp that is already on the verge of breakup. Don't be afraid to add another drive pedal between the fuzz and amp for some extra tone shaping and controlled chaos. EQ pedals can also yield interesting results. Will it get noisy? Maybe, but the tone is worth it, and nobody will hear the noise in the mix.

5. Extra Tip, turn the gain down. Every forum will tell you that you turn a FFP all the way up and that's it. Let's see, Eric Johnson always has his set just below max(as described in step 2), David Gilmour used his around 60% fuzz into another drive pedal, and SRV set his at around 80%. There are many more tones available than simply blasting the gain. Don't be afraid to experiment and you may just discover your sound while chasing someone else's. In general, there is a sweet spot right around 75-90% gain.
