Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend, both actors, met on the set of the 2002 drama “Trapped.” They initially met during a read-through for the film but didn’t immediately hit it off. Townsend later recalled, “All I remember is Charlize had a dog with her and I remember thinking, ‘Oh, there’s the mad lady with the dog!’” His perception changed later that evening when they both arrived early for a dinner with the director. Townsend described Theron as looking like a “million dollars” and being “a goddess, man, a total goddess.” Theron, on the other hand, didn’t initially see Townsend as relationship material, as he lived in England and she lived in the United States. However, things changed quickly, and Theron has since referred to Townsend as the “best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

The Development of Their Relationship

Theron has described how she and Townsend approached their relationship with honesty and openness. Theron has stated that she felt no need to “wear a white dress and throw a big party” and compared it to a film premiere. Townsend echoed this sentiment, stating that love and trust were more important than marriage. However, Theron did describe themselves as being “married” in a sense, stating that they were “husband and wife” without needing a certificate or state or church recognition.

The Breakup

By early 2010, rumors of a split had circulated. The Daily Mail reported that a trip to Mexico over the holidays had sealed the couple’s fate. Theron has since stated that she took a step back from acting to work on her relationship with Townsend, stating, “It was sinking, and I had to give it a fight… I wouldn’t do it any different way.” Townsend has focused on the positive when asked to discuss the split, stating, “We had a great time, we had a great adventure, that’s all I can say.”

Where They Are Now

Theron has not been in a public relationship since her split from Townsend, instead focusing on raising her two daughters. She has stated that she is open to new relationships but that any man looking to date her has to “come with a lot of game.” Townsend has not been in the public eye as much since his split from Theron, but he has continued to act and direct.
