Here’s a hands-on, mastery-aligned Place Value Exchange Game designed to help children deeply understand number structure, regrouping and base-ten logic - perfect for home education, travel learning, or sensory-rich maths play.

You'll need:
A dice (or number spinner)
Orange Numicon ‘ones’ (or any small tokens, coins, buttons)
Blue Numicon ‘ten’ rods (or a substitute for tens)
A place value mat with Hundreds, Tens and Ones columns (available from www.rumbohub.com)

How to Play:
1. Roll the dice and collect that number of orange 'ones' (or coins/tokens etc.).
2. Place the ones in the Ones column of your mat.
3. Roll again, adding more ones each time.
4. When you reach 10 ones, exchange them for 1 blue ten rod.
• Remove the 10 ones.
• Place the blue ten in the Tens column.
5. Keep rolling and building, exchanging every time you reach 10 ones.
6. Say your number aloud each time:
• “One ten and three ones — that’s 13!”
• “Two tens and six ones — that’s 26!”
