NZ Insolvency Trends in 2020

Adam Botterill, Senior In-House counsel and William Robinson, Insolvency officer from Waterstone Insolvency, discuss the insolvency trends in 2020. Despite the global Corporate insolvencies forecast of a 26% increase in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic, it was a drop off as companies took on-board Covid wage subsidies and loans. They were 1,161 insolvent and 248 solvent liquidations in NZ in 2020. That’s a real drop off from the peak of insolvencies compared to 2010 when they were approximately 4,000 insolvencies per year.
