In the first 5 books of the Bible, also known as the Torah, were a special set of commandments that Moses wrote. These commandments were placed in the Ark of the Covenant, which was in the tabernacle. Special people guarded the tabernacle called Levites who were an appointed priesthood.

God's commandments in Leviticus told the Israelites to support the Levites for doing His work by giving them a 10th of what they had, or what some know as tithes.
