Solo Spoilers Rant/Review - I liked this movie in it's own right. Like I think someone coming in fresh, not knowing nor caring about Han Solo as a character in the original trilogy, would enjoy this film! It's not a bad film in its own right! You can tell you're in the Star Wars universe, and its a fun, well acted ride. It's a quality film that is as entertaining as any other good to excellent film! The problem lies with the film's writing of the Han Solo character and his legend as it pertains to his lifestyle, friendship with Chewbaca, Lando, and the Millenium Falcon. In other words, for me, this is NOT Han Solo and I think the film does the character a great disservice in demystifying, and de glorifying Han Solo's legend. The film suffers from misguided attempts to wink at Star Wars fans that fall flat and actually are try-hard, and even damage the characters! Like I mention in the review, Han Solo in position and lifestyle as portrayed in "A New Hope," based on his personality, feels like the result of his life circumstances, his struggles to survive what the universe has thrown at him. His legend feels like the result of having learned from hardships and experiences surviving as a smuggling, pirate scoundrel, not because he dreamed of becoming that!" But in this movie, apparently, Han always wanted to be a pilot, the greatest in the universe at that! This movie tries way too hard and uses things that are real from the Star Wars universe and from the Han Solo legend. We get to see the kestle run, yet with a giant squid poster that would be impossible in space! L3 droid is a weird addition. Reminded me of women with that big but, wide hips, and thick thighs! The kestle run now becomes something that has lost its mysticism, since we can no longer use our imagination to dream up what the kestle run may have been. Also, Han's love for the Millennium Falcon is cheapened. Here, Han falls in love with the Falcon just because it is the first ship he sees and rides, as well as it looks good. For millions of fans, Han loves his ship because of everything they've gone through together.
In the end guys, in this video I talk about everything wrong with "Solo: A Star Wars Story" and what bothered me. That is why, this film for me, gets the lowest possible passing grade, a 6 out of 10!
