Having experienced this scenario countless times, Emergency Department nurse Jonathan Bartels chose to speak up about this tamping down of emotions and encourage his peers to stop for a moment; transforming this passage into a ritual of respect and renewal. The Pause has since been embraced by teams and hospitals across the country, as well as codified and translated into more than six languages under the guidance of Silvia Perez-Protto, Medical Director of Cleveland Clinic’s End of Life Center. Jonathan and Silvia, in partnership with Michael Hebb, Death Over Dinner founder, share how they are evolving The Pause into a new phase of global accessibility.
