Oh look

My grief is purple now

My grief is purple now

My grief is purple now

It is not the vengeful red of yesteryore

Full of rage, pith and fire

Nor is it blue anymore

It is not the elusive mood indigo

Hidden away in some musty forgotten chamber

I have bought it centre stage

I’ve had to

My grief is purple now

It is swathed in light

From downstage left
To upstage right

It pulses like an angry tropical flower

That blooms once every fourteen years

I have bowed down at her doorway

And asked her to bloom only if she wants to

Her thorns have started letting go
Of their vice like grip

From my head, my neck, my back and my hips

Pools of my blood have trickled down to her feet

From which she has drunk

So she can blossom

And wear her ornate gold crown

And now I feel clean (quiet relief)

My grief is purple now

It’s once heavy doors are now corridors of light

Where She stands, Matriarch

Bathed in a soft vermillion hue

Incense pours out from her every pore

Carrying me forward to her heavenly core

The wheels of her chariot have crushed my bones

Leaving mists of angry ochre and sublime lavender in its wake

I tread lightly in her footsteps

Following the voices of the ones who beckon to me quietly from the other side

My grief is purple now

It’s gilded tips glowing knowingly

My lips are now hers

My spine her quill

My blood her ink

My joy can finally sleep

Till the sun enters my rib cage tomorrow

But for tonight my grief reigns sovereign
