The Keep Extended Broadcast TV Ending

Описание к видео The Keep Extended Broadcast TV Ending

The footage from the 1984 film The Keep that begins at the 1:34 mark did not appear in theaters, nor on VHS, Betamax, and LaserDisc, nor in the version streamed online by Netflix.

This footage appeared only on television broadcasts in 1989 and the 1990s. The film itself has never been on cable, DVD nor Blu-ray.

The ending shown in the Youtube video named Keep alternate end which is at    • Keep alternative end   was created by tweaking the image and audio of the VHS-to-DVD transfer that you see here with video processing software and splicing it into the laserdisc version of the film. The video that you see here is what was taped off TV without any tweaks other than having been transferred to DVD.

Imagery from this scene appeared in 1983 in stills, lobbycards, and magazines, as well as in a printed Japanese program of the film.

Why was this scene deleted from the film? The novel by F. Paul Wilson from which the movie is derived has a scene that is very similar to the one here.

This is not the only extended ending of The Keep that was broadcast on television in 1989 and the 1990s. In other versions:

(1) Glaeken carries a motionless Molasar down into the keep, following the same route that Eva Cuza does in the version you just watched.

(2) Glaeken is seen to be alive at the bottom of the gorge, wounded after his battle with Molasar, crawling to the stream there and seeing his reflection.

(3) Eva Cuza goes down into the keep and brings Glaeken out.

(4) Glaeken and Molasar fly around dark Keep space and shoot lasers at each other until Glaeken wins, Eva Cuza runs back into the keep, and finds Glaeken's smoking body there.
