The most popular chemical engineer job is a Process Engineer which oversees a large scale, industrial process. They are responsible for design, procurement, operation, optimization, and troubleshooting of large scale processes.

EPCM stands for Engineering Procurement Construction Management. At EPCM firms, the company gets contracts to work on engineering projects for clients (in most cases, big companies).

Most Process Engineer roles will have elements of process control, such as monitoring trends and optimizing the process, however process control is such an important topic that it may need dedicated process engineers to create really good process control systems. In Process Control, you’ll learn about all the process control techniques that are used to control systems, which includes everything from the sensors you use, transferring those measurements into digital readings for the controller, sending that to a controller and then adjusting your process accordingly.

Project managers are responsible for planning, organizing and directing a project. They also constantly organizing and working with a team to get things done on based on TIME/SCOPE/CONSTRAINT.

R&D jobs are more commonly done in universities, research facilities, or are separate departments of larger companies. R&D roles are focused on the development of new processes that could generate the business money, but still require a lot of research to determine if that process is viable.
