Every spring, locals gathered to hunt timber rattlers in the surrounding hills, collecting bounties and turning it into a full-blown community event—part wildlife control, part town festival, part “I hope nobody gets bitten today.” Thousands of snakes were reportedly turned in over the years, making Morris nationally known for something most towns would politely decline to be famous for.
