Making A Usnea Infused Oil

Hello and welcome to Old Ways Gardening and Prepping. 🍀 Would like to welcome you each in to the kitchen with me this afternoon. Once again we were blessed with another abundant harvest of usnea. So I am finally getting around to making some usnea infused oil for making salves.

So far to date there are 87 different forms of usnea growing around the world. Usnea is actually a lichen that grows on tree branches, bushes, upon rocks and can grow along creek banks worldwide. It goes by many names but it is most well known as old man's beard. Please don't get it confused with Spanish moss they are two completely different plants.

This small hairy lichen is a powerhouse healer, and unfortunately more people don't know about it. Well known as a broad-spectrum natural antibiotic. It is a antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic as well as antibacterial. Known to heal staph infections, gangrene, heal wounds, respiratory issues, allergy symptoms, stop bleeding, sore throat, fungal infections, urinary infections, sinus infections, vaginal infections and the listing goes on and on. Have used it personally as a tincture, a tea and as a wound wash. Now I am adding a salve in to our uses of usnea. Have brewed it as a tea before and used it to heal chickens, dogs and cats by mixing the tea in to their water. It truly is amazing and can not say enough about the healing abilities of this small blessing. This time I am focusing on external ailments which a salve will take care of.

Have to say that I am very impressed with using the Alpha 420 to make infused oil and looking forward to making more oils in the future. Just simply followed the easy instructions and it produced one amazing deep rich usnea infused oil.

Usnea Infused Oil

Following the machines instructions.

Little over 5 cups of olive oil
3 ounces of cleaned usnea
1/2 tsp of vitamin E oil to the jar at the end
