For the Great City Creators interview, I was able to meet with David Krietor, the CEO and President of the Downtown Phoenix Organization. Mr. Krietor is affiliated with many business leaders and various nonprofits to help improve the livelihood of the downtown area of Phoenix. Mr. Krietor believes that through his work, he, as well with others, can help Phoenix create the downtown core that it never had. One of the current activities Mr. Krietor is involved in is the Pedal to the Metal:DTPHX Bike Rack Design, which calls on the local artist to help design bike racks for the city. He also oversees the downtown Phoenix Art Walks every first Friday. He describes downtown Phoenix as a ‘City Laboratory’, where artist, designers, and community leaders can the potential to collaborate on creating a downtown core, which Krietor believes never existed. One bit of advice Mr. Krietor gave me was to become more active in the community. That in order to create a downtown, you need the people to help create it.
