For this episode of the Three Battles Series, we continue looking at the smothering and smashing strategies of Heaven gua, this time through the context of fighting with the legs. Hand work is useless without a strong base underneath. In the Ma family Kung fu I study and teach, we have a saying, “the hand moves, the foot moves.”

The three battles are a theory to understand combative tactics. We are looking at each of the three battles through the strategic lens of the Guas from Baguazhang with each gua representing a strategy and each battle represents an area of combat to apply that strategy.
